Washington, D.C. — According to more than one White House insider, President Donald Trump has asked outspoken actor, writer and director Clint Eastwood to replaced embattled and error-prone Press Secretary Sean Spicer. The controversial move by Mr. Trump is said to be a reaction to the “negative optics” that the current press secretary is projecting from the daily briefings and due to the fact that the President is a huge fan of the Dirty Harry film series.
On several occasions, then candidate Trump often quoted the popular fictional police officer Dirty Harry during many stump speeches prior to aides “getting him on script” with the use of a teleprompter.
“I would knock that crap out of them,” said Mr. Trump during a Iowa campaign stop in January 2016. referring to ISIS. “It’s like Harry Callahan would say. You know Harry Callahan, right? Dirty Harry? I would dare them to make my day and then I would bomb the hell out of them. I gotta tell ya, it would make may day, you better believe it.”
During the 2016 election cycle, Mr. Eastwood was not a particularly huge fan of Donald Trump, noting that the Republican candidate has said “a lot of dumb things.” However he found the alternative of Hillary Clinton to be much worse.
“I’d have to go for Trump,” Eastwood said, four years after delivering a Republican National Convention speech to an empty chair. “You know, ’cause [Hillary’s] declared that she’s gonna follow in Obama’s footsteps. There’s been just too much funny business on both sides of the aisle. She’s made a lot of dough out of being a politician.”
Reaction from to the rumor was split down party lines.
“This is what Trump needs to do,” said Penn Valley resident and conservative activist Brock Whalen. “Spicer is a screw up and making things worse for the President. We need a tough guy in there who will not take crap from these communist journalists.”
The White House has yet to confirm or deny the rumor.
