Grass Valley, CA –– Tempers flared late Saturday night outside the Nevada County Fairgrounds Beer Garden near Treat Street. Things got heated after the Monster Trucks, Stock Tuff Trucks, and Extreme UTV Side-by-Side Races ended around 8:00PM in the Arena. An influx of men and women in their 20s-40s headed to the beer garden after the Saturday night event. After a few hours the beer garden kegs were tapped out of Bud Light, Sierra Nevada, and Shocktop beers for about 15 minutes until replacement kegs could be brought over from the beer pavilion on the other side of Treat Street .
At approximately 10:15 PM three of the patrons got in a heated discussion about which one owned the best truck between Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge models. This led to a 10 minute brawl between approximately dozen different men. The fight promptly ended when Fair security broke up the fights and reminded the patrons that the new beer kegs had been tapped and would still be available for purchase for another hour.
“It was really a blur,” said an anonymous male patron. “We were drinking, and then this handsome man shows up and organized us into a circle. Well, then, you know what happened. He gave us some rules that I’m not supposed to repeat.”
Some witnesses mentioned that this group may have been some type of “fight club” because all the men seemed to know each other before the ruckus started. Similar to the film Fight Club, the men involved in the fist fighting were not wearing any shirts and seemed to enjoy the violence like it was some type of homoerotic male bonding ritual. One witness noted that “The first rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club. The second rule of Fight Club is: You do not talk about Fight Club.”
