Grass Valley, CA — As tensions rise in Baltimore following the “toilet paper riots of 2015,” authorities in the quiet Sierra Foothills community of Grass Valley, CA have reported no looting at the local Koch Industries PayAdvantagesâ„¢ check cashing service.
“We have had no reports of any suspicious activity at the PayAdvantages location,” commented a source from the Grass Valley Police department. “In fact, we didn’t even think about it until you [Gish Gallop] called us. We’ve focused on the recent high terror alerts and the Chemtrail protestors on the Brunswick overpass, to be honest with you.”
Opened in February in Fowler Center in what was the former Republican headquarters, this “alternative financial institution” provides banking-like services outside traditional institutionals, according to company representatives. Organizations like the Koch’s PayAdvantagesâ„¢ stores provide short-term unsecured loans, regardless of whether repayment of loans is linked to a borrower’s payday. Supporters of same-day payroll loans say they provide an important “cash flow” service to struggling people, and that no one is forcing people to use their services. Detractors say this is nothing more than obscene usury that traps people in a non-recoverable cycle of debt and the presence of such services are a sign of economic blight.
“Actually, business has been steady, ” said Koch Industries spokesman Stephen Bleederman. “What do these small communities need? Liquidity and access to quick capital. We believe that our same-day PayAdvantagesâ„¢ check cashing service will provide money into the hands of people who need it the most. And our recent expansion across the street into the KFC has been a real win for our drive-thru customers.”
When asked if the Grass Valley Police or the Sheriff plan on increasing their presence in the Fowler Center to monitor the check cashing service, the police department issued this statement.
“Local police authorities believe there is no looting risk at the present time. We have also contacted local supermarkets, and they assure us they have plenty of paper products on hand, including toilet paper, if there is a run on their stores.”
