Penn Valley, CA — The 92-year-old Nevada County Gish Gallop has announced today that it has copyrighted the popular Internet phrase “you can’t make this stuff up.”  According to Gish Gallop officials, there will be a small surcharge for anyone or any institution using the phrase starting January 1st, 2017.

“Actually, the phrase was coined by the great 3rd Nevada County Gish Gallop publisher David Covino in the early 1950s,” said current Gish Gallop President Lou LaPlante. “Shortly after inventing recyclable newsprint, he coined the phase after a competing local paper accused him of fabricating the story. We’ve discussed copyrighting it for several years now, but decided to make the move for 2017. ‘Nuff said.”

According to the filing with the copyright office, Gish Gallop will only charge $.0043 per citation of the now famous phrase. Non-profits and hardware stores are exempt. It is unclear at the time of this writing how this will be enforced, due to Mr. LaPlante’s great distaste for lawyers and litigation.

Loos like the employment rate is about to improve in PV. Gish Gallop is going to have to hire “collection agents”.
