Phoenix, AZ — The world is mourning the loss of one of its favorite stars. Grumpy Cat, also known as Tartar Sauce, was found dead this morning of an apparent suicide. He was only 5 years old. The cause of death according to Grumpy Cat’s owner Tabitha Bundesen was death by hanging.
Grumpy Cat, a calico mix who suffered from feline dwarfism, came to fame when Tabitha’s brother posted a picture of Tartar with the quotation, “I had fun once, it was awful.” That Facebook post went viral and Grumpy Cat became an overnight sensation. He was featured in cat food ads, made special appearances on late night television, and has been coupled with merchandise sold online.
Grumpy Cat’s owner Tabitha spoke to Gish Gallop about the suicide.
“I don’t understand how a cat with no thumbs wraps an X-Box power cord around his neck,” sobbed Tabitha. “I can’t believe this is happening, I’ll have to get an actual job now.”
Grumpy Cat was believed to have been worth nearly $10 million dollars. He was one of the 10 richest pets of all-time behind Lassie, Benji and Snoop Dogg.
Sierra Lanet, a die hard Grumpy Cat fan, spoke to Gish Gallop about how his death has affected her.
“I will miss that ‘lil squishy face so much. I have been crying all morning,” said Sierra. “The worst part is I have to find a way to break the news to my 17 cats at home. They will be devastated.”
Officials for the SPCA recommend giving your pets a little love today because you never know what depression they may be hiding.
